At the top of the Japan's social hierarchy was the Emperor. They had only a small bit of power over the shoguns which came after them. The shoguns were very powerful military leaders. The Daimyo followed after the shoguns. They were extremely powerful land owners who swore with the Samurai's to protect and defend their land. Next were the Samurai's and they were warriors and soldier. The Ronin were the similar to the Samurai's but slightly different. The peasants were the people who had farms and there was a big percent of Japanese people who were in that situation. Underneath the were the artisans. These were the people who take materials and make them into other objects. On the bottom of the pyramid is the merchants. They were people who only sold objects and not make them themselves like the artisans and the peasants. That concludes the Japanese social hierarchy pyramid.
